Shey Gompa to Jomsom Trekking

Shey Gompa to jomsom trekking is known as one of the rain shadow region in Nepal which can be done in monsoon too. Some people used to write or pronounce as Dolpo too. Dolpa is a name of district of Nepal. Upper Dolpa is one of the almost far remote and undeveloped parts of Nepal but it is trying to developing. Of course, there is no motor road the part of upper Dolpa and regarding southern Dolpa just building road like below Jufal airport or around.  There is only one way to transport by domestic aircraft. First you will fly to Dunai {Jufal airport} from Nepalgunj about half an hour then start trekking. Upper Dolpa trekking requires special permit or royalty which cost is US $ 500 for first ten days and after 10 days each day $ 50 per person and group size should be 2 members at least. It works if you pay double royalty and trek alone.

It is opened for trekking group since 1996. There is a national park with 3500 square kilometre area which called Shey Phoksundo National park. National park covered above 4000 meter above sea level. Uper dolpo trekking is catAegorised as a hard rank because of several high pass as high as 5000m to 5350m approximately.  Normally, tourist buy for 10 days special permit for upper dolpa but there is another short trail to get Jomsom within 5 days but need to be paid for 10 days $ 500.

Shey Gompa is the most isolated of the district and it is still following shamanism as treatment for sick people. Shey Gompa is Bonpo monastery situated in highest land of Nepal Himalaya and surrounded by Chrystal Mountain and some snow coped peaks. Dolpa is culturally Tibetan religious and it is untouched by tourism. Upper Dolpa is still organic natural and culture can be seen. In upper Dolpa, where prepared a movie for Oscar Award, it is called Caravan. This movie shows pure locality history and their living life.  You will see how people are surviving in this century in upper Dolpa trekking. It is hard to get enough food and nutrition. Upper dolpa north heading is brings you close to Tibet and some people trek to Upper Mustang as well. This trek is a part of The Great Himalaya Ttrekking route. Upper dolpa can do within start from Jufal and end too but this itinerary takes you to Jomsom with adventure challenging altitude.
